Mandy :o)

Answer
Hi Mandy,

Well, "designing" London would have to be Sir Christopher Wren.  But shaping means many things.  Politically, the Stuarts, the Cromwells, the Junto, William of Orange, and various members of Parliament and the Court.  Scientifically, there is Newton of course.

Here are some useful Web sites to take a look at, though I think you'll find much more in a library.  Use these as your first steps and then do some more intensive reading, depending on what interests you.

These are pretty good sites, but I urge you to look beyond sites and get some good books, too.

Best wishes,

Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.
