Answer
Hello Athos. As a good guide to Scotland during the period of the Civil War I'd recommend two novels by the great author of Scottish historical fiction, Nigel Tranter. "The Young Montrose" and "Montrose: The Captain General" cover the period 1637-50 and tell the story of James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose. They are full of convincing detail.
