Question
why was Mary queen of scots and Elizabeth enemies?

Answer
Hello Becky.
The main reason was that Mary was Elizabeth's heir to the English throne. But Elizabeth was Queen of a Protestant country whilst Mary was a Catholic. After Mary had fled Scotland and been imprisoned in England several plots to overthrow and kill Elizabeth and place Mary on the English throne were hatched. Eventually Mary was proven to be directly involved in one of them and she was executed for plotting Elizabeth's death. Mary regarded Elizabeth as illegitimate and therefore thought of herself as the rightful Queen of England.
