Yes, I can remember it. The series is called "Secret army".

The cafe owner was played by the same actor (Bernard Hepton) who played the german Kommandant of the serie Colditz.

I believe the series you're referring to was called 'Secret Army'. Allo Allo was pretty much a direct spoof of it as the main characters in Secret Army were a cafe owner and a female resistance fighter. They even had the nasty, aryan, Gestapo officer as their nemesis.

I hope this helps.

The show was called Secret Army. Very popular over there at the time. Allo Allo was a comedy spoof of the show and was also very popular.

Also, if you were looking for the comedy spoof of Secret Army, a show named Fairly Secret Army appeared for two seasons.

Don't know if you're still looking for the answer but this sounds like Secret Army. It was set in French-speaking Belgium, I think. It was a serious drama and ran for a number of series.

The programme you are thinking of was called 'Secret Army' it was about an escape line for the RAF operated from the Cafe Candide in Brussels by the 'Lifeline' organisation.  It ran for three series from 1977.  It starred Jan Francis as Lisa Colbert leader of Lifeline and Bernard Hepton as Albert Forret owner of the cafe.  All three series are available on dvd.  There is also a book about the behind the scenes filming of the series.

I think the series could be Secret Army. Drama series about the French resistance during WW2 (that spawned the comedy series Allo-Allo)  Jan Francis, Bernard Hepton, Angela Richards. Stephen Yardley. BBC TV late seventies.

I am also looking for this series, I think it is something like 'time and again' or til we meet again' anyways |I will keep looking, it was a great show!

That sounds very much like Secret Army. It had a cafe and it's owner, the resistance, and was shown from 1977 - 1979.

It certainly sounds like the ITC series "The Zoo Gang". The series set in Monte Carlo. The actress Lilli Palmer owns the cafe in question.

Yes this was called 'Secret Army' - wiki link here:

I remember thinking Allo Allo was a cheap and unfunny blatant rip off and never watched it for ages as a result...!

I believe the show is "The Secret Army" - "Allo Allo" was a later comedy take off of this drama series.

Secret Army and it was set in Belgium. There was a different series set in France about SOME telegraphers sent to France to help the resistance called Wish Me Luck.

Sounds to me like you might be talking about "Secret Army".  "Allo Allo" was a parody of that series.
