According to wikipedia.com, the man died in 1992 at the age of 84.  I was a fond viewer of his Tv appearances while I was stationed in the UK from 1978-1980.  As described, the man was a raving "lunatic" with the flailing arms and intended manner of getting his point accross to the audience when answering tough, or even, simple questions.  My favorite moment was his co-starring in the Thomas Dolby video "She Blinded Me With Science." He will be missed by anyone not familiar with his eccentric manner!

Little known fact about Magnus. During the war he had an idea to make black pudding out of the stocks of human blood to add to the ration.
