British Theatre/drama schools in UK
Expert: FRANCIS LYNCH - 5/2/2008
QuestionDear Mr Lynch,
I am aware of the fact that you did not say that you are an expert on drama schools, but I thought I might at least try and ask you anyway.
I have been considering auditioning for an acting course, but I am not too sure which schools are supposed to be the best. I know that The RADA has a very good reputation, but I don't know about any other schools such as the Guildhall, Bristols drama school etc.
I would be very grateful for any answer or maybe a website I could refer to,
Thank you very much,
AJ
Answer
FIRSTLY VERY MANY APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY IN ANSWERING, MY E. MAIL HAS BEEN DOWN FOR AGES, THANKS B.T.... YOUR FIRST PORT OF CALL SHOULD BE:
The Conference of Drama Schools
WHICH HAS A GREAT 'SEARCH FOR COURSES' SECTION.
ALL DRAMA SCHOOLS COME WITH THEIR OWN RECOMMENDATIONS OR CRITICISMS,
MOSTLY FROM THE PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THEM. I TRAINED AT U.M.I.S.T. ON A TECHNICAL DEGREE SO I AM NOT IN ANY POSITION TO RECOMMEND OR DECLAIM ANY, ESPECIALLY ON AN ACTING COURSE.
FROM MY EXPERIENCE; DRAMA SCHOOLS ALSO HAVE A CYCLICAL SUCCESS PERIOD. MOUNTVIEW WAS EXCELLENT FOR A PERIOD BUT WAS THEN SUPERCEDED BY GUILDHALL.
HOWEVER A GREAT MANY ACTORS WILL SAY THAT R.A.D.A. IS THE ONLY PLACE TO TRAIN AS AN ACTOR, IT IS NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO GET INTO HOWEVER.
TALK TO ANY ACTORS YOU KNOW, BUT I PROMISE THEY WILL ALL HAVE DIFFERING VIEWS.
SORRY I CAN'T BE OF MORE HELP.
BEST
FRANCIS
