Question
Hi Bettye,

I work for a company in Orange County California called "Renaissance Doors & Windows" I work inside the corporate office. We work on expensive homes only and build custom doors and windows. After watching some of the shows on TV, we believe our company would make a great show for some of the networks like HGTV. We would like you to come see for yourself and let us know if it would work. The owners of the company are brothers and they know I am trying to get a production company to take a look and see if we would qualify for TV. We would make a better show then the ones on there now.

Thank you,
George Mendoza

Answer
George...I am not in TV. I own a recording studio and am a voice over audio professional. However, I do know the TV business enough to tell you that people "pitch" shows to all kinds of channels and networks. Do you build things free of charge as a donation to the needy? That's what you'd have to do to get publicity. Can your company donate things to needy family? First, get your local TV people to do story on your company when you go out to someone's house and help them by donating.  Next, make your pitch with DETAILS explained thoroughly to HGTV and other channels who broadcast this type of programming. Phone them first to find out to whom your proposal package should be addressed. And do you have someone who is professional who could do a video of some of your products and someone who looks and sounds "like TV" talking about your idea? Send a short video too. It's a lot of work getting ideas heard in the TV business. If you're serious about this, get started pitching to various networks on TV. It's worth it if you get a show. It will take some money too to get your materials looking and sounding good to make your pitch to TV people.

All best and happy holidays

Expertise

For over 25 years, I`ve announced hundreds of TV radio commercials, narrated hundreds of videos/films for cable TV, museum tours, corporate and educational uses. I am one of the most well known voiceover coaches in the U.S. and have trained and counseled careers of voiceover talents now heard worldwide. Students travel from all over the world for my expert advice and training in announcing-narrating. I am a recording studio owner and audio engineer in Dallas Texas. I produce commercials there along with audiobook projects and voiceover demos. Much misinformation is "out there" about becoming a voiceover talent. The ability to voice projects is a wonderful way to augment one`s income at all ages and stages of life. This field knows no age! People can voice projects anywhere on earth if there is a recording studio there! And today, we simply send voiceover work as an MP3 file attached to an email, thus permitting us to work for clients worldwide! We live in a "talking world." Toys, greeting cards, telephones--everything talks--that`s what we voiceover talents do and it`s a wonderful field. I am degreed with two masters and a ph.d (minus dissertation) and have taught college courses many times. I am a Simon and Schuster non-fiction audiobook author (Speaking Effective English - WomanSpeak - CommercialSpeak and other titles).

My former students announce commercials, narrate projects worldwide. Some students have jobs on radio/TV stations/channels in many U.S. cities.
