Brother & Sister Problems/My little brother
Expert: Keld - 9/5/2010
QuestionHi, I'm Jacob. I need to ask you about dealing with a 7 year-old that apparently knows everything. He always tries to boss me around and always constantly wants me to be playing with him when my mum and dad can't. Like right at the moment come to the end of term 3 at school, tests, quizzes, assignments. And I'm always being pestered, "Jacob, can you play with me," "Jacob, I don't know what to do." I swear he just gets the satisfaction out of my anger. Now that I think about it, that is what fuels him, to keep ignoring myself and my parents. As much as my parents tell him to stop bugging me and stop annoying me, he just doesn't stop. So, what am I to do? I've got a major exam at the end of this week and the time that spent studying, half of it at least must have been telling my little brother to SHUT UP! and stop annoying me. Also, the only way to stop pestering me is to smack him, but then he goes crying to mum and I get sent to my room. Now, I know he means well, I just wish he could express it. So, if you have any tips on dealing with this problem, I'm all open ears.
Kind Regards
Jacob
AnswerHello Jacob,
Sorry I couldn't answer soon, something was wrong with the system. Having a little brother is a joy but it can be really hard sometimes. When they are young they need you a lot, you have to try enjoy that because belive or not they grow up so fast, and your going to miss those times. School is important too and you have to know your priorities. You just have to know when and how much time you are going to spend with him. Tell him that you'll play with him, but set up a time and make sure he knows that. Explain to him that your tings are important too and the type of consequences you might have if you don't do them. Patience is the key to this, it's hard but I'm sure you'll find a way to deal with this. Just remember that he might act strong and smart with you, but the bottom line is that you are his hero (just like any older brother in the world.
my best wishes,
Keld
