Buddhists/Temple

Question
I have searched on many websites, as part of my "investigation" before joining Buddhism. I agree with a lot of the beliefs and strongly want to join. But if Buddhism is the philosophy of awakening ones self, do I need to join a temple in order to do that? Or can I meditate and practice myself? Also I apologize for all the questions. But If I become a practicing Buddhist, do I need a ceremony in order to except the Five Precepts and the Three Refuges. I went to a website that was kind of a do-it-yourself and I think I excepted it. Please help.

Thank you For your time and wisdom.

Answer
Hi Frank,
Sorry for this late reply since I just back from my countryside trip to discuss with many respected monks. Your question is one of the best question I want to answer. The answer is that you don't need to join the temple. You can do meditation yourself. Even ceremony is not important. You can start with a very simple step such as the Five Precepts and later doing the meditation yourself. If you have any question, ask me again. You are very welcome.
