Question

I am 73 years old, born just 14 days after the Dahli Lama was reincarnated.
I have been reading many books on Tibetan Buddhism.  In every one, the
book says that I must find a master to lead me.  I have been chanting to
Chenrizig and to Padmasambhava using a mala of 108 beads.  I have
chanted to Chenrezig twice each day, doing five rounds for five months, and
have just begun chanting to Padmasambhava today, which I also did for five
rounds.  I am sincerely trying to take the teachings to heart, and I have seen
a difference in my life.  How do I find a master, and do I absolutely have to
in order to achieve enlightenment?

Answer
Hi Joyce,

Thank you for asking me.

You are practising the Tibetan tradition of Buddhism. I follow the Theravada tradition.  There is this forum which is very informative and lively.  You can go to the Tibetan section and seek more advice.  The site is :  http://www.lioncity.net/buddhism/

You can also try the "mother" of all Buddhist sites to find a temple near you:  www.buddhanet.net

Hope this helps.

( Just a personal comment; The Buddha IS our Master.  We take refuge in The Buddha, The Dhamma, and the Sangha. No others should we take refuge.  We depend on ourselves through the practice of the Dhamma to experience peace and happiness.)
