Question
QUESTION: I was wondering if you could give me some insight into theravada buddhist women and the types of foods they cook. I'm research nutrition but it's hard to find what types of dishes and vegetables theravada women cook. It be nice if you had some recipes as well.

ANSWER: Hi Keicia,

I am afraid there is no answer for your query.  It is just like asking what do Catholic Christian women cook.

There is nothing to do with cooking or diet.  Theravada is one of the traditions or schools of Buddhism.  It can be practised by anyone irrespective of diet.  As for Mahayana Buddhists, perhaps the emphasis will be on vegetarian diet.

QUESTION: But I read that they give food to monks and that for certain rituals they prepare certain dishes. Is there anywhere I can find out exactly what these dishes are? Do you know what these dishes are?

Answer
Hi Keicia,

If you are referring to Theravada tradition, I am very sure that there is no such practice.  Maybe the devotees out of enthusiasm may have prepared something special for the monks.

To confirm my answer, you can always ask some other sources.  One of the good sites is:

E-Sangha forum.
