Question
Hello
I have been practicing Buddhism for about 4 years.
I know we are supposed to refrain from killing. I like to fish and have been doing so for over fifty years. Mostly I catch and release,but occasionally I eat a few. I also kill bugs when I have to but try to avoid it. I am otherwise kind to animals. Am I a Bad Buddhist or not a Buddhist at all? Thank You
Hi Andrew,
As you quite rightly use the right word "refrain". You are a good Buddhist, no doubt. Please refrain from killing as best you can. That's all.
To totally stop your 50-yr hobby may be asking too much from you. The choice is yours. Maybe one day you may make a decision to indulge in a more wholesome hobby, like bird watching or photography!!
