Question
When do children become considered adults in Buddhism? This is a question by my nephew (8-1/2 years old).
Hi Joseph,
I don't think the Buddha specifically said any thing about this. Buddhism is concerned with the conduct of living a peaceful life. Even in India during the Buddha's time, Indian culture was already very established; and I would assume that it had its own interpretation of what was the matured age.

Experience
I was brought up in the 50's as a Buddhist. For the past 40 years I have read numerous books on Buddhism and listened to numerous talks on Buddhism by well-respected and learned monks and lay teachers. I conduct Buddhist classes for parents of Sunday School children in a Theravada Buddhist Temple.
