Question
I am a student midwife and have been set an assignment on how being a Buddhist may affect childbirth. For example, is it against their beliefs to have a male midwife? Or are there any special requests Buddhistss may have when in labour e.t.c. I would be very grateful if you could gve me any insight into this interesting religion and culture. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Lauren,

This is an interesting question.

Actually Buddhism is about how to experience inner peace through the right conduct of contentment and harmlessness.  If there are any "special request" by any Buddhist in labour, it would have nothing to do with Buddhism, but with her cultural belief.

Hope this simple answer clear your doubt.

Take care.
