Question
Hello,
I found your site and it said I could ask questions regarding Buddhism. I am a nursing student in a spirituality class. I need to interview people of different faiths. If you could help me out that would be great.
-As simple as you could explain the basics of your religion.

-The major differences in Buddhism versus Christianity

-what is your spiritual perspective on healing

-what are critical components of healing, such as prayer, meditation, belief, etc.?

-what is important to people of a particular faith when cared for by health care providers whose spiritual beliefs differ from their own?

- How do patients view health care providers who are able to let go of their beliefs in the interest of the beliefs and practices of the patient?
Thank you so very much for your help.

Answer
Hi Tammy,
Your questions are good questions. The only problem is that each of them demands an answer of at the very least one long, thoughtful paragraph, in some cases several thoughtful pages. I think you are either going to have to find someone to talk to about these things for an hour or two, or do quite a bit of reasearch yourself, either on the net or in a library.
Alternatively, you would be welcome to ask a more simple, straightforward question that can be answered in the few minutes I have available for this.
I know that sounds negative - sorry! But I think to give half-baked, snap answers to your questions would sell you short.

All the best

Expertise

I have practiced and studied Tibetan Buddhism in the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions since the early 1970s, and have a good knowledge of theory, history and of the struggles of trying to practice the teachings, including meditation, while leading a normal, modern life. I am also available to provide background information for journalists.

Experience

I have been a practitioner since the early 1970s; have run a small Buddhist centre in the English Midlands and was vice-president of Kagyu Benchen Ling e.V. in Germany, for whom I managed three large Buddhist summer-camps. More importantly, I maintain a habit of personal practice. I am the "owner" of the Kagyu list at Yahoo.

Education/Credentials
My first degree was an M.A. from Oxford. I later obtained a Master of Philosophy degree for a research thesis in "Initiation in Tibetan Buddhism" from Leicester University. I also have engineering and educational qualifications.
