Question
I am writing a paper for a class I am taking on spirituality and have to ask some question about other faiths and need some help. I have listed the questions below and would appreciate any help you might provide.

What is your spiritual perspecive on healing?
What are critical components of healing?(prayer, meditation, belief)
What is imortant to people of your faith when cared for by health care providers whose beliefs differ from your own?
How do view healthcare providers who are able to set aside their own beliefs in the interest of your beleifs and practices?

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Dear Sherry,
These questions are very open, and it is not clear exactly what you are asking. They are cues for essays or books, and I can therefore only offer you tiny answers.

> What is your spiritual perspecive on healing?

Anything that makes people happier is a good thing. Being a doctor is a great profession.

> What are critical components of healing?(prayer, meditation, belief)

Perhaps prayer helps. The inner health of the sick person will surely make a difference.

> What is imortant to people of your faith when cared for by health care providers whose beliefs differ from your own?

It is important, regardless of faith, that doctors and nurses respect the wishes of the patient.

> How do view healthcare providers who are able to set aside their own beliefs in the interest of your beleifs and practices?

Of course they must do that. Anything else is disrespectful to the patient - perhaps seriously. People who cannot set their own beliefs aside in such cases should perhaps consider whether they are in the right profession.

I hope that is at least a tiny help.
All the best

Expertise

I have practiced and studied Tibetan Buddhism in the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions since the early 1970s, and have a good knowledge of theory, history and of the struggles of trying to practice the teachings, including meditation, while leading a normal, modern life. I am also available to provide background information for journalists.

Experience

I have been a practitioner since the early 1970s; have run a small Buddhist centre in the English Midlands and was vice-president of Kagyu Benchen Ling e.V. in Germany, for whom I managed three large Buddhist summer-camps. More importantly, I maintain a habit of personal practice. I am the "owner" of the Kagyu list at Yahoo.

Education/Credentials
My first degree was an M.A. from Oxford. I later obtained a Master of Philosophy degree for a research thesis in "Initiation in Tibetan Buddhism" from Leicester University. I also have engineering and educational qualifications.
