Question
What is a Buddhist view towards the whole concept of genetic engineering? What is your veiw on genetic engineering?

Answer
Hi Anthony,

I have received a number of similar questions from your location. You must be from the same group.  Below was my answer:

So long as science can help in the progress of humans without harming others, Buddhism accepts. The danger lies in the evil tendency, wickedness, and utter foolishness, of very intelligent people! To be very clever does not equate to be very wise. Cleverness and wisdom are two different traits. This is the danger of this world.

I encourage people to use this simple acid test to arrive at a reasonable answer. This is like a catch-all solution. We need not have to search through the Buddhist scriptures to find answers. Ask ourselves these 3 questions:

1. Is the action harmful to oneself?
2. Is the action harmful to others?
3. Is the action beneficial?

Hope this helps
