Question
I was wondering what the Buddhist opinion on reading tarot cards is. I read once that as a buddhist, it is not good to "mix religions". Is reading tarot cards something that is looked down upon in Buddhism? Another form of attachment? I consider myself Buddhist but am still drawn to tarot cards, but if they're a hindrance to my buddhist practice I'd like to know.

Hi Emily,

As you consider yourself a Buddhist, then I would say that "reading tarot cards" has nothing to do with the Buddha's teachings.  As you know, the Buddha taught self-reliance and purification of the mind.  Once a person has full confidence in the Buddha's teachings, this person will not be influenced by any other methodology.
