Question
I am interested in buddhism but I don't know where to begin learning about the faith.  Do you have any books or articles that you can recommend to me?

Answer
Dear Emily,
There are many types of Buddhism.  I teach Zen which is very different from the other sects and does not have the idea of faith in it.  I don't know if Zen would interest you or if you would be more interested in the sects that involve the idea of faith and ritual. Zen is known for being very austere and difficult. There are many books on Zen by D.T. Suzuki that you can find in any book store.  There are also hundreds of websites for the many branches of Buddhism that you can find doing a 'google.com' search.  Please let me know if I can be of more assistance to you.
Take care,
       Joe

I can answer questions dealing with Taoist philosophy and Zen and not the historicity and religion of Buddhism and its different schools. I studied under Dr. Richard DeMartino and Masao Abe of the Kyoto School of Zen.
