Question
How do contemporary Buddhist practices reflect the foundations of the religion?

Answer
Dear Tracey,

Thank you for your question.

I find your question a little too generic so I shall answer it in a very general manner:

Other than the 5 precepts and meditation,  most practices today do not really reflect what the Buddha taught. Most are either too "decorative" in the sense that elaborate ceremonies are deveioped more for show than any real significance while others dwell too much on the "supernatural" aspect. Most have forgotten that Buddhism deals with the HERE AND NOW, not "after death" nor "achieving some superhuman status".
