thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Maya,
Buddhism is a very free religion.  We have complete freedom to practise the Buddha's teachings by using our common sense, following the Biddha's middle path, that is, the moderate way.  No dogma and no extremism.

As I said before, the fasting is actually a disciplined exercise of not taking meals after noon-time.  The person observing the 8 precepts will undertake to abstain from taking meals after noon-time.  He can drink liquid at any time.  When it's time to eat, he can eat anything he wants.

The chef will insist that we are what we eat.  But the Buddha would point out that we are what we think.  The practice of Buddhism is a spiritual journey towards reducing our greed, hatred, and delusion; by developing the mind to become a more compassionate and peace loving human being.  By training the mind to realize that if we want peace and happiness, we must also give peace and happiness to others.  We guard our thoughts, speech, and actions, such that we do not hurt ourselves as well as not hurting others.  It is not how much we eat or do not eat that matters.  It is how we conduct our lives that is the utmost important.
