Question
Hi,
I am doing some research about Buddhism and have come across the four noble truths. I have read over them and done some research but I am still confused about the second and third noble truth. How are they different and what do they mean? Any advice you can offer is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Chris

Answer
Hello Chris,
Very simply put,
the first truth is that people suffer;
the second truth is that they suffer because they want things to be different;
the third truth is (consequently) that if you get rid of this want suffering will cease;
the fourth truth is how to go about getting rid of this want.
