Buddhists/Three Questions on Buddhism

Question
Do you think that Buddhism can enhance or expand an individual's perception of the world?

Do you think that a certain type of person is attracted to the Buddhist ideas or way of life? If so, why?

Does growing up in the western society make it more difficult for an individual to be open to eastern ideas, or does it foster an open minded approach to other cultures?

Answer
Hi Jade,

Thank you for asking me.

Your qn:

Answer:
Buddhism is about leading people to realize the true perception of the world.  People have wrong perception of the world, hoping to have perfect happiness and complete satisfaction.  That is why people around have always been miserable chasing after illusions.

Not many will want to change their ways and beliefs.  They have been indoctrinated by society since the day they were born.  Many do not have the freedom of choice.  Only those who are prepared to open their minds to new concepts and ideas can learn something different.  If Buddhism is completely new to them, the only way to learn is to approach it with open mind.  Otherwise, nothing can be done.  Buddhist concepts are very different from the other religions especially the God based monistic theologies.  Only those who are prepared to put aside their stereotyped beliefs can learn Buddhism; otherwise they will feel threatened by the different interpretations and perception of the world and existence which Buddhism revealed.  Only those who value peace and freedom of thoughts can be attracted to Buddhism.

Answer:
This depends on the society that one is brought up.  Western society is not homogenous.  If you are from big cities, you may be more liberated in your thinking.  If you are from the American Bible belt, it's going to be different.  Generally speaking, I would say "Westerners" are more receptive to new ideas.  The fastest growing religion in Australia is Buddhism.  If you disagree I won't argue with you because I don't have the stats to prove.
