i was not sure who to pose this question to so i hope that you will be able to help me. i am currently at college in england i am studying buddhism and have chosen to write a piece of coursework the titel is 'Discuss the historical background of the figure of the Dalai Lama in Tibetan Buddhism and assess the impact that exile has had on the present Dalai Lama and Tibetan Buddhism' i was wondering if you could offer me any knowlegde you have, specifically on the effect exile has had  on tibetens, and the practise of tibetan buddhism, and also on who the dalai lama is. on some web sites he is the re birth of the buddah himself , on others he is differnt lamas. i would greatly appriciate any help. tahnk you for you time .x

I think I can not help you. I am no expert on Tibetan social history nor the Dalai Lama. Where are you
posting from? there are several good organizations
connected to the Dalai Lama and the Free Tibet organization who might help.
