Question
I would like to know what you eat.My mother is the manager of a Fire Service canteen here in Australia and some Buddhists are going to be visiting and she would like to prepare a meal fitting their culture please.

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for asking me.

Actually, lay Buddhists are not restrictive in their types of food.  Theravada Buddhists are not vegetarians.  But devout Mahayanist Buddhists would stick to non-meat sustenance.  It is best that you ask them directly.

I was brought up in the 50's as a Buddhist. For the past 40 years I have read numerous books on Buddhism and listened to numerous talks on Buddhism by well-respected and learned monks and lay teachers. I conduct Buddhist classes for parents of Sunday School children in a Theravada Buddhist Temple. My teacher was the late Chief Reverend, The Ven.
