Question
QUESTION: in theravada buddhism what is sentence or number of years in hell on can expect for:  1) harming, torturing monks 2) killing one ?

ANSWER: Hi Valerie Kaye,

No one knows, as the law of kamma is a mysterious force.  The only law we know is that evil actions result in terrible rebirths.  Furthermore, the time-scale (time dimension) is very different from our worldly reckoning.  One "day" in another plane of existence may be many years in human life-span.  There are also different levels of hells encompassing different levels of sufferings and different time-span.

Answer
Hi Valerie Kaye,

Welcome back.  Actually I am here to answer questions on Buddhism and not to voice my opinion.  But since you ask for one, here is my answer:

"The Golden Rule: Do not do to others what you do not wish others do to you."

Smile from justinchoo :-)
