Question Hi there. I'm just wondering how you can safely send a flight ticket to somebody else, without the possibility of any complications. I mean, can you buy a ticket and just send it to somone? It may well be a dumb question, but I honestly don't know. Thanks.
Answer Hi Paul:
Not dumb but interesting. I'll assume the UK is every bit as security conscious as the U.S. In olden days one could buy a plane ticket and give it to anyone who could take it to the airport and use it. Those days are long gone.
Let us ignore the fact the neither I or most others have used physical tickets in years. We get electronic E tickets emailed to us and present a copy of the email which has our ID number.
OK let us say you buy a physical ticket. Today the ticket MUST have the name of the actual passenger on it. If you are talking about buying a ticket for some one and the ticket has their name on it then so far so good. Then the only issue is SENDING it which is in fact your question.
Since no one else can use the ticket it is not like sending cash. Though some trickster could try to cash it in. SO, best to send a valuable ticket by what we call Certified mail where the recipient must SIGN for it when they receive it and you get proof it was delivered to the right person. That should do it. So far as I know anyone can buy a gift ticket like parent buying a ticket for their child etc. Just use certified mail, FEDEX ETC. OR have an E-electronic ticket emailed to your or see if they will email it directly to the passenger whose name is on the eticket saving you the cost of certified type mail.
Hope that covers most avenues.
Bottom line is you can not buy a ticket in YOUR name and send it to some one else to use. Only the person whose name is on the ticket can check in and board the plane.
