Question
Hi there

I am a college student looking to travel to Melbourne, Australia to visit a friend, who is studying abroad there this semester, over my spring break.  I have heard of good last minute deals or potentially travelling as a courier and I was wondering if you knew the best way to do that... I could easily depart from either Washington, DC, Detroit or New York.  Any advice?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Amy:

Just updated my profile. Since we fly arount the world, and U.S. Free we do NOT specialize in 'last minute' air fare deals which are best found by diligent Google 'research.'

I love Australia and totally savored our two month trek using three motorhome rentals, scuba diving the barrier reef AND Melbourne,,,,quite neat town.

I would suggest you check out the NY and/or LA Times SUnday travel sections which are often a great source of
'current' air fare deals. You can check Amazon.com or half.com for the one or two books out on 'courier' travel.
I have heard it does work but best when you have flexibiliy.

You might check Entertainment.com for their current
Melboune edition which is about $30 with free S/H. We enjoy using these 2 for 2 coupon books on sightseeing, restaurants etc. and they usually easily pay for themselves. Great for treating your friend to free food etc. You can even view all the available discounts.

Here is my blog on free travel. It is never too early to get started, even college students use credit cards, some more often than advisable. It's a long, possibly boring article but is the key that takes us around the globe Free.

Our 70C American airlines award included free flight to Sydney, free second flight from Melbourne to Christchurch New Zealand and third free flight to Maui!
