Question
Hi! I have just recently discovered that my budies have two eggs (yeah!!) But she has laid one outside of her nesting box, is it ok to move it inside or will she destroy it? And since I am a first timer at this, how long does it usually take before the eggs start hatching? Thank you!!!

Answer
Hi, Monika,

You can try moving the egg from the cage into the nesting box and see what the female does.  She has no way of moving this egg herself, so she might appreciate your help or she may not accept it.  Depends on the bird.

If fertile, a parakeet egg takes 18 days to incubate starting the countdown on the date the female begins the incubation process.  Some hens don't start incubating their eggs until the second, sometimes a third egg, is laid.  Some begin incubating when the first egg is laid.  It just depends on the individual bird.
