AboutLeah Expertise I can answer questions relating to feeding, setting up cages, behavior, sexing, and many other subjects. I don't have much experience with breeding, but I can try to help.
Experience I've raised budgies for over ten years, and have hand raised several of them.
Question How do I set up a nest box? My cage is medium sized, so if I put it in there, the area would get crammed up. I have no opening on my cage where I can attach my nest box, either. What do I put on the bottom of the nest box? What are extra supplies needed for breeding? Thanks and please reply soon,
Ustat.
Answer Nest boxes aren't that complicated. You don't need to put anything in the box, but if you put a some pine bedding for small animals in there, they will try to clear it out. That will help them start to breed. In the wild, they lay their eggs in tree hollows, without much in the way of nesting material.
You don't exactly need extra supplies, but make sure they're in good health, and they always have access to food and water. They tend to eat more during breeding time.
Depending on your definition of crammed, I would either try it in the cage you have now, or you can try getting a larger cage if you think they need it. You can also try and see if you can find a nest box that's a bit smaller, so it will fit better.
