Question
Hello, should the top of the parakeet nest box be open when the eggs hatch. Or should the nest box always stay dark?

Answer
Hi Mustafa!

It is best to leave the lid on the nesting box when the chicks hatch and through their time in the nesting box. I have heard from friends of a chick going blind because it was too bright in the nesting box when they first opened their eyes. I don't know if this is true, but I always leave the lids on my nesting boxes.

Hope this helps!
Erika
