Question
We just brought home a budgie that we purchased through the media. We never noticed until we got home the female budgie is pinky red under her back tail feather. Is she pregnant? She also has a little bit of a lump in the rear end of the bird. Kind of plumpy looking. She is cuddling with her mate and talking to her.
Hello Colleen,
This could be a number of things. She could be bleeding from her anus, she could be ready to lay an egg, or she could be egg bound which would kill her.
Eggbound is when an egg gets stuck inside a parakeet before it can lay it. If there is a lump there chances are shes either going to lay one soon, or shes egg bound.
Take her to the vet ASAP just in case shes egg bound.
