Question
Baby Budgie
Baby Budgie
Yesterday I found a little parakeet eating out of my bird feeder. I could tell it was young and that it was someones pet, so I went around asking if anyone had lost a bird.  When nothing turned up, I took it in, because there's no way it could have survived on it's own in the wild.  I'm not sure how long he was out and about.  He seems very young, maybe 4 months because his eyes are completely  black, and he looks kinda puffy like a baby. My question is, do baby parakeets talk much? I know he might be traumatized because of being away from home, but he never talks..unless you go to touch him, like a little "no" chirp.. otherwise he just eats, and sleeps, and eats, and sleeps and he won't really let you touch him. also, he's not a very good flyer, he's not hurt, and his wings are not clipped. I got him a cage and he seems comfortable, but he won't play with any of the toys. Is he maybe just tired/traumatized and wants to relax, or could he be sick? I don't know it's previous behavior.

Answer
 Hello Tena,

Without a prior history on the bird, it is really no telling what he/she has been through. I would just keep an eye on him and provide a safe and relaxing environment for him. I agree that he looks very young, but as far as any possible injuries or diseases one could only guess as to what he/she has been exposed to or even how long the bird has been in the wild.

Best of luck
