Budgies/Breeding soon after a clutch leaves the nest

Question
Our parakeets second clutch hatched 6 1/2 weeks ago and the babies have already left the nest.  There were 5 eggs and 2 babies hatched.  We took the mother bird out of the nest about two weeks ago when she started attacking the babies and put her in another cage until we were sure they were ready to go to their new homes.  We put her back in the cage with the father bird a week ago.  Before putting her back in we removed the nesting box.  Today I found a cracked egg on the bottom on the cage.  Should I put the nesting box back in?  I read that they should not mate more than twice a year.  Is that true, or can they mate more often?

Answer
Hey Dionne,

Well I think it's maybe that you removed the nesting box that made her attack her babies, however putting it back may not help. If you have seperated the babies from the mother please make  sure they are getting food. Last of all, budgie should only mate twice a year. Only TWICE A YEAR. Or she may become egg bound causing her to die in a matter of hours. Best of luck.

I breed budgies. Only budgies. And I have exprienced all of the things I wrote when you asked me what kinds of questions can you and can't you answer.

Education/Credentials
I studied bugdies for quiet a while before recieving my first. I know what to do in an emergancy and also basic information people may need to take care of their bird(s).

Past/Present Clients
Whenever one of my good friends has a question about budgies, I'm the one they ask. I don't think of them as clients, I just would say I help them in times of emergancies or general knowledge around the subject
