Question
we just lost 4 birds in less than half an hour 3 were budgies and 1 canary ,fast breathing than dropped dead any idea why

Sorry to hear about this.

Normally, when this many birds pass away at the same time this quickly the reason has to do with the use of some type of carpet freshener, something toxic to birds sprayed into the air (lots of things are toxic to birds, but not humans), overheating of a Teflon-coated pan or other, etc.  It is definitely something respiratory related and toxic because of the breathing problem.
