Question
how soon will my bird lay another egg after the first one. it's been over 18 hrs.

Answer
Hi, Virginia.  Thanks for posting!

Most parrots lay an egg every other day when they are laying eggs.  So if your bird laid an egg on Monday, you shouldn't expect the next egg to be laid until Wednesday.  It takes time for the embryo to make it's way through the reproductive tract and the egg shell to be formed at the end just prior to being laid.  Birds don't carry a clutch of eggs inside their bodies and lay them one after another, like a dog or cat having puppies or kittens.
