Question
we found a parakeet and put him in a bird cage he was very hungry when we found him. we gave it food and water and now its inside on a perch and covered up. he seemed to be very exhausted and sleepy. he is also fluffed up. We also have a lovebird that we are keeping in a seperate room.
We dont know how long he has been in the wild. any info would be great.

Answer
Hi, Christina,

This bird obviously is someone's pet that escaped.  The bird, like you stated, was probably very hungry and thirsty and probably cold since it most likely isn't used to having to fend for itself out in the wild.  You did good by bringing the bird in and feeding/watering it and keeping it warm.  It is likely very stressed right now and just wanting to sleep and stay warm.  The bird might have also acquired some type of illness out in the wild (maybe, but not necessarily fact), so be on the lookout for signs of illness.  However, the bird could be perfectly healthy, just hungry, tired, and thirsty.  Give it a few days to recouperate.  I'd keep your lovie away from this bird for at least 30 days if you are going to keep it.  If you want to try to find its rightful owner, put up signs in local shops, ad in paper, etc.
