Question
My budgie has been to the vets and has a crusty beak and has been sleeping and drowsy for the last 24 hours after being given antibiotics by the vet yesterday. Why is he sleeping all the time?

Answer
Hi, Ann,

If your bird is sick, it will want/need to sleep in order to get better.  Also, the antibiotic the vet gave may be causing the bird to sleep.  In addition, the stress of being sick and then being taken to the vet can take a lot out of a bird.  Allow your bird to rest as she needs to and consult your vet right away if there are any negative changes in your bird.  Call your vet and discuss the situation with him if this would make you feel better and/or if you are concerned.  That's what the vet is for!

I hope all turns out OK.
