Budgies/I think my bird is sick :(

Question
Hello,
My budgie Dexter is 8 months old and I've had him for quite some time now. He wasn't acting normal today. I saw him scratching his eye several times with the stick or with his toenails.. and he keeps it closed most of the time. Around his eye, it seems like he lost he bit of feathers he had and you can see a bit of his pink skin. I'm worried about him because it seems like he's sleeping more then usual.
Hope you can give me some advice asap.
Thank you for your time!
Mina.

Answer
Hi, Mina,

Your bird may have an eye or respiratory infection, could have injured its eye somehow, could have scratched it with its toenail when it was doing something else, etc., etc.  If the bird is sleeping more than usual, this could indicate illness.  I recommend you take your bird to a certified avian vet for a medical exam ASAP.
