I'm probably going to get some terrible thing from asking this, but do you think the Spike V. Angel thing gets overplayed?
Buffy and Angel are sort of intended to be that classical tragic love story, and some of Buffy's greatest moments come from it: morning after brutality in Innocence, the sacrafice in becoming, and the emotion you feel in 'Passion' is awesome. Some of the best of both Sarah and David come out in that season 2 arc. Joss always explained the trick as being give them what they need not what they want. That's why that ended the way it did.

Spike falling in love with Buffy was rolling with the punches, and their affair evolved with great chemistry, and it was really endearing towards the end. It was so sweet hearing her tell him she loves him.

I think having Buffy and Angel end up together on either series finale would have been too this-is-the end. The point of Buffy's finale was that she conquered it all, but she's still growing up, and I think that's one of the reasons it ended the way it did. The fact is both the stories of Spike and Buffy and Angel and Buffy still haven't ended.

She could truly be happy with either, and they're both in her heart.

I think it gets totally overplayed. Spike and Angle are two seperate parts of buffys life, and kinda represent how she changes throughout the series. I think everyone will always believe that buffy always truly loved angel and that spike was just one of those things. But really i agree with you that they are both in her heart, they just both appeal to opposites of her life and personality. Alot of people say spike was bad for buffy, but if spike wasn't in buffys life the way he was, we wouldn't have the buffy we had by the end of the series. I liked the open end of buffy, just like you, it represents how buffy has felt about spike and angel throughout the series, she could never chose, and both sides of her would never be satisfied with just one.
