Buffy the Vampire Slayer/yes, dawn's special, but is she "special"....?

QuestionHi! I'm a mega Buffy fan and i just noticed something kind of weird the last
time i was going through the series. In "tough love" of season five Dawn says
"the monks put grades k-8 in my head, can't we see if they drop 9 in there,
too?" meaning she's in the ninth grade.
In season 6, the ep. "All the Way," Dawn says that she's a freshman.
Finally, in season 7, she starts her first year of high school. wouldn't this be
her freshman year? some middle schools go from grades 7-9, but if you ask
me, it's still a little odd.
I don't know, it's probably just something garbled in the writing or they
wanted to keep her young. But i was just curious and wanting another's
opinion.
Oh! and, one other thing. ok, buffy dies at the end of season 5 and it's
probably around May, because everyone's still in school. But when she comes
back, Spike tells her she's been gone for 47 days. BUT- Dawn is already in
school and they just had parent-teacher day. I don't know, just another little
fluke.
I probably watch the show a little too much...
Answerhi, i have never noticed that fluke! ive watched the episodes again and the only explanation i can think of is that she has moved to the newly opened sunnydale high in the middle of the year and therefore would still be in freshman year. And as for the other fluke I'm not sure when american school holidays are, but the writers of the show probably didn't think 2 carefully about this. Thankyou for your question. if you want more information about flukes and bloopers in individual episodes buffyguide.com always has some interesting information, and it's quite funny to read hehe.
