Building Codes and Inspections/fire doors

The rating of doors in stairway exits may not be reduced.  One hour stair exits require one hour door assemblies.  Two hour stair exits require two hour doors. In rated exit access corridors, and some other assemblies, the reduction is allowed by the IBC.  If the building is fully sprinklered, the the ratings could be reduced or eliminated depending on the circumstances. The design professional in charge of the project and the building official of the municipality are the folks to talk to.  There are many variables that need to be taken into consideration.
