Building Homes or Extensions/New home construction

Question
We're building in the Austin, TX area.  I am wondering if "upgrading" from the standard rafter spacing of 24" and the standard concrete of 3000 psi to 16" and 4,000 psi respectively would be worth the additional cost.  Both together would add about 1.25% to the cost of a 350k house.

Answer
Hi Wendell,
I would certainly go with the 16" o.c. rafter or truss spacing. The concrete however, is probably not going to give you much better performance.
( if you were in an earthquake area...more steel and better concrete rating would be good)

Best of luck, Dave
