Building Homes or Extensions/water apparently leaking between walls into basement

Question
I am trying to sell my home, but have discovered a leak. It appears to be running between the wall in our living room, and down into the basement. it is an approximate 2ft section that is affected, although I have noticed that the large window adjacent to the damage has been dripping around the upper frame. Do you have any suggestions about what may be causing the damage this is the only water problem I have found.

Answer
Without seeing the problem I would have no idea where the water is coming from. Water can travel in a home and may not be coming from the area it ends up in. Get some contractors in to look at it and give you their take on it. Keep getting estimates until you are sure what the problem is. Don't be surprised if a few contractors tell you very different things.
