Building Homes or Extensions/Caulking where siding and brick meet

Question
What type of caulking should be used for sealing gaps where siding and brick meet? Anything in particular?

Answer
Most caulk sold at the box stores should NOT be used.

Caulk should never bond to more than two surfaces and it should be rectangular in shape to maximize its ability move without failing. Bond breaking tape or backer rod are typically uses to prevent the bottom bond in the joint.   Caulk is made to bond to solid substrates that are clean and dry - remove all old materials.  As with so many projects, the preparation and clean up are the largest parts of the job.

Some good types and brand names:
NP1 Sonneborn one part urethane
Tremco one part urethane
Dow Corning 795 silicone

Good caulk is difficult to work with and install correctly.
