Building Homes or Extensions/garage

Question
I have a garage that is 20 X 20 with 2x6 ceiling joist. I have no center support down to floor and the middle is sagging. I would like to bring ceiling back up with some type of support in attic. What are my options?

Thanks, David

Answer
Hi David, If your rafters are stout enough you can jack up the ceiling joists and attach them to the rafters somehow.  If your joists run parallel and are spaced similarly you can attach each joist to each rafter.  If they are offset then you can attach cleats across the rafters and attach the joists to those cleats.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
