Building Homes or Extensions/reseal concrete driveway

Question
I have a stamped concrete driveway that needs to be resealed. I was told that there are water base, oil based and xylene based sealers and that I had to determine what was the original sealer and used the same. How do I determine this and or does this realy matter?

Answer
Hi Pete, chances are pretty good that your sealer is not water (latex) or oil based.  Most concrete sealers are xylene or solvent based.  Water based and oil products apply a film to the surface of the concrete whereas solvent based sealers penetrate and bond with the surface.  If your surface is not peeling or you can't scrape piece off with a razor blade then it is solvent based.   I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely, bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
