Building Homes or Extensions/set tumbled marble tile on drywall

Question
I'm building a kitchen island and planning to set 4"x4"
marble tile on the 1/2 thick drywall, but really worried
about if the papered drywall is upto the task. Should I use
the more expensive cement board?

Answer
Hi Tony, the cement board is a better backer board for any wet areas around sinks etc.  But for regular backsplash areas over counters in non wet areas the dry wall will be fine.  Most kitchens have drywall behind their tile..I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
