Building Homes or Extensions/Concrete

Question
I am a builder in Oregon starting a new residence with a footprint involving several 90 foot single level concrete footings with 24 inch stemwalls.  Is it a good idea to provide expansion joint/break lines in these long runs?  I see Masons doing this in their commercail buildings. Richard

Answer
Richard, we both know that a 90 foot run will crack, the question is where.  The stem is probably covered by brick, so it becomes a bit of non-issue.  Is it a crawl or a slab - I assume a slab.

If I have made good assumptions, I think your energy is better spent elsewhere.  Masons break theirs between 20 and 30 feet.  Rustication in a concrete wall to really work needs to be around 10 feet.
