Building Homes or Extensions/Drywall texture smell

Question
The drywall texture our builder used smells terrible. Could it be old? It's been three days and it still smells like vomit.

Answer
Hi Jeff, if he is using a big spray rig truck and keeps the hopper full of wet material for a long period of time it will get sour and smell badly.  If he is mixing it up fresh from bagged goods then it is either the water or the mix itself.  Most drywall mixes however have a fairly clean smell to them.  Once the texture dries completely the smell should abate.  Be on the look out for any signs of mold or mildew blossoms that accompany the bad smell as that will spell trouble for the mix he is using.  Give it another day or so and see if the smell goes away.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
